Milesight LoRaWAN IoT in South Africa

Milesight's range with us is built around LoRaWAN, a low-power wireless network for battery sensors spread across a building, farm or site. Environment sensors include temperature and humidity sensors (some with NFC set-up and 4000mAh batteries), the industrial T500 temperature sensor, A-Class temperature probes, the 7-in-1 indoor ambience monitor that reads CO2, TVOC, motion and light, a methane gas detector and spot leak sensors.

For monitoring and control there are the UC300 and UC100 IoT controllers (the UC100 talks RS485 Modbus RTU), the solar-powered UC511 solenoid valve controller, the EM500-PP pipe pressure sensor, a pulse counter and magnetic contact switches. People counting is covered by the VS132 3D ToF sensor and the PoE VS135, and the DS3604 is a 4.2-inch LoRaWAN E-Ink display. The SG50 is a solar LoRaWAN gateway with LTE and a 45W panel.

Planning a Milesight deployment

Every LoRaWAN sensor needs a gateway in range, so plan the gateway first; the SG50 suits remote sites without mains power. Check the frequency band in the model code, such as the -868M suffix, and keep sensors and gateways on the same band. Note that the VS135 is a PoE model without LoRa, so it connects over the wired network instead.
