CHINT electrical and solar PV protection in South Africa

CHINT makes electrical protection and switchgear, and our range focuses on home, solar and backup power installs. For solar PV there are Ex9IP DC isolator switches (2P 500V and 4P 1000V, both 63A), the Ex9UEP DC surge arrester rated 20kA and 1000V, and 16A 1000V DC PV fuses.

For batteries and inverter systems we carry RT36-00 battery fuses at 125A and 160A and the NHR17-160/3 fuse switch disconnector. On the AC side there is the NU6-II 40kA surge arrester, the DZ158 100A 2-pole C-curve breaker, a 16A 1-pole MCB, a 63A 4-pole three-phase changeover switch on DIN rail, an 80A over/under voltage relay, and 8-way and 12-way surface-mount distribution boards.

What to check when choosing CHINT parts

Solar strings and batteries run on DC, so use parts rated for DC at your system voltage: a 1000V isolator and arrester for high-voltage PV strings, or the 500V isolator for smaller arrays. Size breakers and fuses to the cable and the load, and check the pole count, since a 2-pole device switches both live and neutral or both DC conductors.

Count the DIN rail modules you need before choosing between the 8-way and 12-way boards. Electrical work of this kind should be installed and certified by a registered electrician.
