V-Sol GPON and xPON fibre equipment in South Africa

V-Sol makes passive optical network (PON) equipment used by fibre ISPs and network installers. At the provider end we carry GPON OLTs from the 1-port V1600GS-O32 with a built-in 1:32 splitter to the 4-port V1600G0-B, 8-port V1600G1-B and 16-port V1600G2-R, along with GPON OLT SFP modules and an AC power supply for the 2-port XGS-PON OLT.

At the customer end there are xPON ONUs such as the V2801RD, V2801SG and V2801Q with a 2.5GbE port, the V2801F ONU SFP module, and the V2902A-XGS XGS-PON ONU with a 10GbE port. ONTs with built-in Wi-Fi include the V2801RGW (Wi-Fi 4), the V2802DAC, V2804AC-Z, V2804AC-A and HG325AC-A (Wi-Fi 5), and the V2804AX30-A (Wi-Fi 6).

What to check when choosing

Confirm the PON type your network runs. xPON units work on EPON or GPON, but XGS-PON ONUs need an XGS-PON OLT. Check the optical connector too: most of these units use SC/UPC, so your patch leads must match. When sizing an OLT, look at the number of PON ports and the split ratio you need, and choose an SFP class with enough optical budget for your distances.

For subscriber units, a single-port ONU suits customers with their own router, while an ONT with Wi-Fi and gigabit ports saves installing a separate router. The HG325AC-A also adds a POTS port for a phone line.
